Move over Herbie, KITT, and the Gadgetmobile. Here, we have an entire world of living cars like you who don’t need humans in the driver’s seat. The movie centers on Lightning McQueen (voiced by funnyman Owen Wilson), a hotshot rookie race car who early on finds himself in an unprecedented three-way tie for the prestigious Piston Cup. McQueen is as bold as the bright red paint which marks his exterior; his ego insists that not only he can outdo his formidable foes — consummate reigning champ The King (renowned NASCAR driver Richard Petty) and brash perennial runner-up Chick Hicks (Michael Keaton) — but that he can do entirely on his own, without relying on a pit crew or any kind of help.

Bound for a tie-breaker in Los Angeles with visions of victory in his dreams, Lightning wakes up alone in the middle of nowhere. Actually, he is in the sleepy Route 66-centered town of Radiator Springs. In a panic, the race car wreaks havoc on the small neighborhood. (read on)

In A Bug’s Life, the protagonist is Flik (voice of Dave Foley), an ant whose sole desire in life is “to make a difference.” Flik is an inventor, and, when one of his experiments goes wrong, it brings the wrath of the grasshoppers, led by the dangerous Hopper (Kevin Spacey), down upon the denizens of the ant hill. To protect the community, Flik, with the blessing of the ant queen (Phyllis Diller) and Princess Atta (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), ventures into the outside world and recruits “warrior insects” to defend the colony. The group of nine he collects is comprised of a praying mantis (Jonathan Harris, Mr. Smith from the TV version of “Lost in Space”), a butterfly (Madeline Kahn), a black widow spider (Bonnie Hunt), an unladylike ladybug (Denis Leary in a scene-stealing vocal performance), a walking stick (David Hyde Pierce, from TV’s “Frasier”), a caterpillar with a German accent (Joe Ranft), a rhino beetle (Brad Garrett), and a pair of unintelligible pillbugs (Michael McShane). There is a mistake in identity, however. Flik’s “warrior bugs” are actually circus insects, and they accompany him under the false assumption that he is a talent scout. Things start to unravel once the ant and his elite corps discover the truth about each other. (Read On)

Like most Americans, Yankee’s family is struggling to survive during the Great Depression, and like most Americans, they also share an adoration for the one bright spot in these difficult times - baseball and Babe Ruth. The only problem is, baseball doesn’t seem to love 10-year-old Yankee back.

Could it really be possible for a low-rent movie producer to make a Hollywood blockbuster by filming a big-time action star in secret? The answer, of course, is no. It’s a ridiculous idea. But ‘Bowfinger’ is a ridiculous film - and, what’s more, for the most part it works tremendously well.

Steve Martin, delivering arguably his finest comic performance for the best part of a decade, is Bobby Bowfinger, the struggling film-maker in question. When we join him he’s drinking at the last chance saloon - the unpaid bills are piling up, his most trusted associates want nothing more to do with him, and even his pet pooch looks like it’s having second thoughts about sticking by this loser. He’s not so much a has-been as a never-was.

Suddenly, though, there’s a glimmer of hope for this no-mark when the script for a new flick lands on his desk. (read on)
